London
This is our reconstruction
of a stocking or stunt hose from 14th century London, based on various
extant fragments. All fragments seemed to have been designed for a
small person, with the heel circumference of only 18 cm. For
comparison, our circumferences are 31 cm and 35 cm. The extant
fragments of the stocking (find #237) are displayed as grey shaded
areas on the picture. They form an incomplete garment, so to
reconstruct the stocking correctly, we used the
extant fragments from find #235 as an example of the upper part of the
stocking and the sole, and displayed the reconstruction as white part
on the picture.
